We have created a new area called Scores where you can see the top scores from each game on the site. Let's see if you can get your name in the top spot in any of the games.

We will have more games like this in the near future and we will have some new and fun twists to this promotion going forward.

Fantaz Major Milestone!

A very exciting milestone has occurred for FantaZ. Yes, we have turned on games for cash play. During our rollout, we have limited it to 6 games and we have segmented them on the Games page. We are committed to delivering a positive experience and more games will be turned on for cash soon! You can click on the Games tab or click on the link below.

These games are available at micro stakes of $0.25 and $0.50 for 2 players and 5 players only. As we move forward, we will add higher amounts and more people per tournament.

We have also created our first theme game called Merry Matches. It’s a holiday theme game that was created by redesigning the Memory Master game. Going forward, this feature will be a tool utilized for marketing and for charities.

FantaZ's Fantasy Sports Update
October 6, 2011

The 2011 NFL season is just under way and we have weekly fantasy football now available. This is a fun way to play fantasy sports but the main difference is this game last one week, not an entire season. These new leagues that we have available are easy to access on the fantasy sports page of our site.

To access these new leagues, log into fantaZ and click on the fantasy sports image on the right side of the league home page. A new browser will open up. When this page opens up you will remain logged into fantaZ. In the middle of the page is a button that says Join Prize League. We have a few leagues running and as one league fills a new one will be automatically created to replace it. To join a league all you have to do is click on the join button next to the league you want to enter. Once you hit that button you are in the league. We recommend that you click on the link on the home page to rank your players. If you don’t make the draft the robot will pick for you using your updated rank list.

Here is a quick overview of how a weekly fantasy sports game works. All these leagues are weekly leagues that you play against everyone (10 teams per league) and you need to score the highest point total to win. No Trades, No Free Agency. Draft 12 players, set your lineup (9 active players) and enjoy. Draft will probably take around 40 minutes, or you can pre rank players and have the robot draft for you. You can also click on the view button before you sign up to see the league rules and scoring setup for these leagues.

The best part is this is a great tool for a ZBO to invite people to FantaZ and have them automatically added to their down line.

FantaZ Technology/Business Update
September 30, 2011

Hello Everyone!

We have integrated the newest build for FantaZ and we will be uploading it this week. As a result, all the system data will be reset. You will have to set up your wallets again using the test information we have provided. All your “play money” will be set to “0” balance. You can add more “play money” to your wallet anytime. All the PTV and GTV will also be reset to 0.

A lot was finalized in the last few weeks. We completed our hardware and software configuration on our launch facility in Las Vegas. This includes all components, firewalls, security, and complete automated redundancies. We are completely scalable and equipped to handle any foreseeable traffic. We made some minor changes to the Z store. We still have a few graphic changes coming but for the most part the store is ready to go. All that remains is to allow orders to be processed once we get the inventory in from our vendors, which will be soon. The order has been placed on all Z Gear. We will be adding additional store items and tools as they become available.

There were many Fantasy Football leagues set up in the last few weeks and everyone is having a blast. The Fantasy system has been working great; thank you to everyone who is helping us with the testing. The FantaZ platform has been thoroughly tested, and we are very happy with the stability and performance of our release candidate I (launch facility). All that remains is a few small tweaks on our comp plan software integration and we then we will be ready to launch.

FantaZ Wallets RESET TO "ZERO"...

Hello Everyone, please make note of this information regarding the balance in your FantaZ Wallet....

We have now uploaded the latest version of FantaZ.com. Upon completing this, all "play money" was reset to a "0" balance. You can add more "play money" yourself through your "Wallet". If it runs out, you can add more. Remember, this is all "play money" from FantaZ. Once we officially launch, your Wallet will be reset to a "0" balance again. At this time, you will be able to deposit "real money" from your own funds.

Release Candidate I - A REALLY BIG DEAL!!!!

We’ve got some VERY exciting news!! As of this weekend, FantaZ is consolidating all of its sites (fantaz.com, beta.fantaz.com, delta.fantaz.com…) into the NEW FANTAZ.COM with the latest version of the FantaZ site and Global Gaming Platform!

This is exciting for lots of reasons, not the least of which is all the fixes and enhancements we’ve been working on are now updated in one place: www.fantaz.com. Secondly, everything is now being run from our beefed-up main Vegas production facility. And most of all: this is the site we are preparing to go live with!

We still have some things we’re working on and fine-tuning, but we are very excited about the overall progress. The site has many new great features including real-time payment processing, a location tab (full geo-location implementation), a fully operational user-account upgrade function, new videos, enhanced security, and much much more.

All game play is still for free, however in order to play the “cash” tournaments you will have to set up your wallet. We have provided test account numbers so DO NOT PUT IN REAL BANKING OR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION AT THIS TIME.

We are very interested in feedback on our signup process. So please read through all the steps carefully while setting up your wallet. Please let us know how the overall signup process goes.

FantaZ and Fantasy Sports

The 2011 NFL season is just under one month away and we will finally have football. In about one week you will have the ability to run your fantasy football league on FantaZ as we launch the fantasy football platform. The 2011 Fantasy Football Commissioner service will be launched for FREE. No cost to run your leagues.

Commissioner leagues allow you to setup your own scoring, roster, & transaction systems for your league. To make things simpler for you FantaZ will pre-populate these sections of the setup area for you so that you will have a great starting point for your league rules. If you use our default setup all you have to do is name your league, set your draft time, and invite your friends. For those of you who are experienced commissioners the leagues are completely customizable and you can create just about any league setup you want. The league setup is simple and we will have video tutorials on each page of the league setup wizard to walk you through the process.

Our leagues have the best stats service available in Stats Inc. It’s the same service that CBS and ESPN use for their leagues. Our software has no 3rd party ads in it and allows you the ability to put in your own banner to enhance your league community. We will also add tutorial videos on the main site so that people will be able to see how to set their lineup, pick up a player or make a trade.

The best part is this is a great tool to invite people to FantaZ and have them automatically added to your down line if you are listed as a ZBO and they join your league. If you signed up as a player and now want to be a ZBO you can go into your profile and change your status.

Steve had some very exciting information about our current test site and he explained why there hasn’t been updates made to the Beta site for a while. The beta site was our initial test site where all of you have done a remarkable job of helping us find the bugs. We would like to thank all of you for your efforts in the testing process.

At this time we would like to invite everyone to start playing on the Delta site which has the latest platform enhancements.

Steve also took us on a tour behind the scenes to show everyone the depth of the site and all the new exciting functions. The webinar went about 60 minutes and a Q&A session that followed lasted about 60 minutes as well. Many great questions were asked and everyone was encouraged to participate.

Steve and Brett thanked everyone for all their help and support thought out this very complex project. We are very excited about the weekly progress and feel we are coming down the home stretch.

FantaZ - Memorial Day Update!

Hello FantaZ Members!

We hope all of you are doing well! Things at FantaZ are moving forward at a very fast pace! We continue tweaking the site with the final upgrades and modifications.

In addition to the progress with the actual site, we have some more great news for all of our FantaZ ZBOs....MORE MONEY, MORE MONEY, MORE MONEY!!! That's right, our ZBOs spoke and we listened! Over the last few months the FantaZ founders, management and ZBO leaders have been in detailed discussions relating to the FantaZ Compensation Plan. We have decided to take the suggestions from the ZBO leadership and implement the following changes to our compensation plan.

The Fast Start Bonus (FSB):

The previous FSB allowed ZBOs to earn a $125.00 by sponsoring 5 Commission Qualified ZBOs in their first 30 days. We have now done away with the minimum requirement! Sponsor 1 Commission Qualified ZBO, earn $25.00. Sponsor 5 Commission Qualified ZBOs, earn $125.00. Sponsor 10 Commission Qualified ZBOs and earn $250.00! There is no minimum and no maximum number requirement at all! How many Commission Qualified ZBOs can you sponsor in your first 30 days?

The Builder's Bonus:

The Builder's Bonus rewarded Pro or Expert Qualified ZBOs who sponsored at least 5 Pro or Expert Commissioned Qualified ZBOs in a month, with a bonus of $125.00. If you only sponsored 4 Pro or Expert Commission Qualified ZBOs and the month ended, you lost the right to earn this bonus because you did not sponsor the 5th qualified ZBO. We have done away with the 30 day time limit! There is no time limit to obtain a Builder’s Bonus, so as new Pro and Expert Qualified ZBOs are sponsored, they carry forward (so long as you and the sponsored ZBOs maintain Pro or Expert Qualification) until you have sponsored a total of five (5) Pro or Expert Qualified Level 1 ZBOs and then you receive your $125 bonus!

Expert Recognition Pools:

After reviewing the Expert Recognition Pools, we have made a change that will greatly increase the payouts to our ZBOs who qualify for these pools. In these pools, FantaZ is rewarding you for building volume and width. These pools are monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual pools, so you have to keep your Expert qualifications and volume up, as well as build width, for the whole period. Building a ZBO business is not about sponsoring just one large ZBO. To qualify for these expert recognition pools, some of your GTV must come from outside of your single largest leg. This will reward the true ZBO builders – those who structure their business soundly with multiple legs – with significantly larger pool payouts based on the play of the entire FantaZ organization! We hope you are as excited about the above changes as we are! We are nearing the finish line and can't wait to get this awesome program launched!

FantaZ: Update + Poker Clarification

Hello FantaZ Team Members,

We hope all of you are doing well! The site continues to move right along and more enhancements and updates have been made. We are very happy with the progress that the technical staff has made and continues to make on a daily basis.

We are in the process of setting a final launch date for cash and you will be receiving notice shortly as to the exact date, and the deadlines for paying sign-up fees to maintain your downlines.

Most of you have probably heard about some of the large Internet poker sites being shut down by the government. We have received a few emails with questions from some of our members wondering if this affects FantaZ.

FantaZ is in no way affected by the government shutdown of the poker sites. Poker sites are games of chance and are illegal in the USA. Remember, FantaZ has NO games of chance, because all of our games are SKILL BASED GAMES. When a user plays in a tournament, each player in the tournament has the same set of data – for instance, if you are playing Spider Solitaire, your card shuffle is the same as everyone else in your tournament, so the only difference is the skill of the player, not the “luck of the draw.”

FantaZ is based in the United States and fully complies with all U.S. laws (both state and federal), and the FantaZ skill games have been fully approved by top gaming attorneys. We have studied the laws in each state, and only allow people to participate in the states that allow skill games by tracking the geographic location of all players on the site. And, we will report all earnings in excess of $600 per year on a 1099 in compliance with U.S. tax laws.

The number of members and games played grows everyday, thanks to you, our ZBOs! According to Google Analytics, since February 14, 2011, we have had over 119,000 unique visits to the site and 2,000,000 page views. Keep doing what you are doing and share the FantaZ opportunity! The poker shutdown can be a great recruiting opportunity for ZBOs to reach out to former players from poker sites and bring them into the legal world of skill gaming at FantaZ.

FantaZ has always been committed to providing its players and ZBOs with a fun, legal business opportunity that will stay on the cutting edge of technology for years to come.

PTV, GTV, CTV UPDATE

Hello FantaZ Members,

Things are moving right along at the Z! Steve and the guys are pounding away with more technical and behind the scene updates. In the next few days some major back-end updates will be published to the site.

You will probably notice some your of the PTV, GTV and CTV totals will be different. This is a planned occurrence and is what we expected to happen once the updates are published. Once the end of the month is over calculations will begin on ZBO volume totals for the month. This testing is invalubale to us. We are now moving forward with detailed commission calculations! We are getting closer everyday!

Once the above mentioned updates are published, all "high scores" on the leader-boards will be wiped out. You know what that means....Login to FantaZ.com, enter some tournaments and get your high scores posted!

Hard to believe it's been about a month since we released FantaZ in Public Beta! Your response has been fantastic! The testing and information we have gained from all of you, our FantaZ Players and ZBOs, has been invaluable!

The feedback you have provided on issues with games, the site itself, suggestions and praise has been extremely helpful to the FantaZ Team! Every bit of feedback is looked at and evaluated by our team.

If you haven't noticed, PTV (Personal Tournament Volume), GTV (Group Tournament Volume) and CTV (Commissionable Tournament Volume) are all now tracking. Every time you or someone in your group plays a cash game at FantaZ, your PTV, GTV and CTV totals are updated. You can see your totals at the top of the "Dashboard" and "My Office" screens at FantaZ.com.

We wanted to give you an update as to the latest happenings with FantaZ....

The past week or so we have been under an expanded Private Beta with a few hundred additional ZBOs who have been testing the site. It is going unbelievably well! The feedback we have received has been a tremendous help to our technical team. ZBOs are having a blast playing games, interacting with others on the site and making new friends.

This week will be inviting even more ZBOs into the site for testing! Please keep an eye on your email for your invitation to come into the site with us and Play at FantaZ! You may receive an email from FantaZ or from your upline. Remember, this phase of our Private Beta is for testing the site. We want your feedback. You may continue to sign up new ZBOs and Players but this needs to be done through the FANTAZ PRE-REGISTRATION site and NOT the BETA site! By the end of this week, we should have thousands of pre-registered ZBOs on the site! By the end of next week, our goal is to have everyone who has pre-registered invited in to the Private Beta!

We also will be releasing a new game on Friday called MOON CANNON! This is a Sci-Fi Space Shooting Game. Your mission is to defend Earth against attacking asteroids and alien ships! Use your weapons, upgrades and skill to blow the bad guys out of the sky! Humanity needs your help! Defend our Planet!!!! This game is really fun and exciting! Check it out when you get on the site!

New Year Update!

Our private Beta has been expanded and there are now more people testing the site on a daily basis which has helped us greatly with the user functionality. The response has been fantastic and they are having a great time on the site. Due to the suggestions and feedback we have received from this expanded testing, it has allowed us to change and modify certain areas of the site so they are even more user friendly.

The next step in the Beta process is to bring in pre-registered ZBOs and give them access to start using the site so we can get their feedback and opinions. These ZBOs will have the chance to play games, interact with other members on the site, use their virtual offices and use the FantaZ Biz tools to share the business opportunity moving forward. This is a great way for ZBOs to and hit the ground running by continuing to build their businesses and position themselves to take advantage of the different bonuses, pools and commissions at the live launch! As this entry process rolls out over the next 30 days, it is our intent to start inviting a limited number of ZBOs into the site each week until all of the pre-registered ZBOs are on the site. This roll out process will be based on the total number of people registered in each ZBOs down line so that the ZBOs with the most people pre-registered will have access first and so on down, until everyone is on the site . Please watch your email and stay in contact with your up line, the FantaZ Blog and our Facebook page for updates.

We have always said that we will not launch until we are ready and we maintain this position. We are closer now than we have ever been. 2011 will be the year of FantaZ!

The entire FantaZ Team has been focused 100% on Private Beta testing the site! More functionality has been added, new games and chat are in place and the ZBO Virtual Office is now populated with all kinds of cool things to help you grow and manage your business!

FantaZ Live is our unique proprietary gaming platform for playing along with your favorite live sporting events. While your team is playing, FantaZ Live will test your skills about the outcome of upcoming plays, the strategies, previous plays in the game, and your knowledge of the sport. You will be able to compete with your friends around the corner or around the global to earn big cash prizes!

We’ll have FantaZ Live tournaments for all major sports, so now you can play along with your favorite teams. Additionally, celebrities will be hosting some of these FantaZ Live events and will play right along with you!

We continue to make great strides with the FantaZ website. More games have been added in the past week along with more functionality throughout the site.

The process of integrating our FantaZ Sports Software module has begun. The FantaZ Live Game Engine testing phase is continuing and we are extremely pleased with how this is coming along.

We have a new shortened overview video that is complete and will be posted to the FantaZ website this week. This new video is great for prospects to get an idea of what FantaZ is all about.

Please watch your email for beta site testing invitations to arrive. We are getting closer to inviting ZBOs in to start testing the beta site. Once we start allowing ZBOs in, we will gradually add more ZBOs every few days until all pre-registered ZBOs and Players are granted access to the beta site.

International Players and ZBOs

Hello Z Team Members,

This update is to provide clarification on the REGISTRATION of INTERNATIONAL ZBOs and Customers (non-US Citizens living outside the USA). During the current Pre-Registration period we have received many inquiries from people all over the world regarding signing up as a Player or ZBO in FantaZ. The global interest has been really fantastic! As a result of the viral nature of the Internet, many of the ZBOs from the United States have shared FantaZ with their friends around the globe.

The FantaZ business model has been built as a Global Gaming Platform where ZBOs and Customers from all over the world will be able to participate in the different aspects of FantaZ. However, it has always been the intent of FantaZ to launch in the USA first. Our attorneys have been working with the authorities and legal counsel in many other countries to make sure FantaZ is compliant with the laws and regulations in these different regions.

It is imperative that government agencies in other countries approve our network marketing program, Compensation Plan and cash prize payouts before citizens of these countries can sign up as a Customer or ZBO in FantaZ. If it is determined that FantaZ is not in compliance with a particular country’s laws or regulations, there is the risk that FantaZ could be banned from ever opening in that country. This would be devastating to FantaZ, but more importantly, it would be disastrous for our future Customers and ZBOs from around the world.

We will continue to open in additional countries after we officially launch in the USA. The information we have gathered during our Pre-Registration period has helped us determine in which countries we have the most interest. Our attorneys are simultaneously working in many of these different markets and will move onto others as quickly as possible.

FantaZ legal counsel has advised us that currently, only residents of the USA and its territories (who reside in and are physically present in a state in which it is legal to join FantaZ) are able to participate as a Player (for cash or merchandise prizes) or as a ZBO in FantaZ. There is an exception to this if you have one of the three documents listed below and are in the USA:

  • SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER - A Social Security number (SSN) is issued by the Social Security Administration (SSA).
  • TIN NUMBER - A Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) is an identification number used by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in the administration of tax laws. It is issued either by the Social Security Administration (SSA) or by the IRS.
  • EIN NUMBER - An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is also known as a Federal Tax Identification Number, and is used to identify a business entity. This is issued by the IRS.

If you have one of the above listed documents, you CAN REGISTER as a non-resident Customer (for cash or merchandise tournaments) or as a ZBO. You must be able to provide FantaZ with this information at the time of our official launch when we begin collecting registration fees in order to maintain your Player or ZBO Status.

FantaZ has always been committed to offering our Z Team Members a legal, ethical and sound business opportunity that could be operated around the world for many, many years to come. In the long run, by going through the proper channels, FantaZ will flourish throughout the world.

We recognize that we currently have Customers and ZBOs that are pre-registered from other countries in FantaZ that need to be addressed. IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY PRE-REGISTERED IN FANTAZ AS A CUSTOMER from OUTSIDE the USA or its TERRITORIES, when FantaZ launches:

  • You CAN play games for free but you will NOT be able to participate in any tournaments that offer cash or merchandise prizes until FantaZ officially opens up in your country.
  • You will NOT be required to any pay registration fees or monthly fees until your country is officially open with FantaZ.
  • Your current line of sponsorship WILL be maintained and you WILL be able to sign up additional ZBOs from the USA, its territories and pre-register ZBOs and customers from around the world.
  • You will NOT be able to earn any commissions or bonuses. All commissions or bonuses generated by any of your downline (from the USA, its territories or future countries that we open in) will be compressed upwards to the first registered ZBO in a country in which FantaZ is open.
  • Once FantaZ is legally open in your country, you will have the ability to pay the ZBO registration fee and satisfy the minimum requirements to earn commissions and bonuses. Once this is done, you will be an active ZBO and you will be entitled to earn future downline commissions from the ZBOs already in your downline, as set forth in the FantaZ Compensation Plan.

We are actively working with counsel to initially open the following countries: the United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Philippines, Spain, France and Germany. The legal issues vary from country-to-country, and we intend to fully comply with all local laws requiring registration and approval of the skill gaming and the network marketing opportunity. After these countries are opened, we will next be working on Japan, China, Italy, Ireland, and India. Other countries will follow, and we will give priority to the countries with the most pre-registrations, so it is important that everyone continue to promote FantaZ worldwide.

As soon as we get any updates on non-US residents registering as either a Customer or ZBO in FantaZ, we will get this information out to you immediately and we will keep our ZBOs informed in advance of new country openings so that you can share the FantaZ opportunity with your friends and business associates in these countries.

FantaZ has published its official Compensation Plan on the pre-registration site at www.FantaZ.com. This is the only comprehensive version which has been posted by FantaZ corporate. Please make yourself familiar with it and do not rely on any unofficial versions circulating on the internet. FantaZ is unlike any company you have encountered in the past. It aims for achieving a brand new paradigm in gaming, business and entertainment and will achieve that in spades. FantaZ pre-launch is LIVE!

Tonight we released the pre-launch FantaZ site so that everyone can sign-up for free and establish their positions within FantaZ. You can go to http://www.fantaz.com and sign-up as a player or ZBO – provided you have a REFERRAL CODE (ZBO Number). We will be providing the code to the TOP LEVEL users only, and they will then provide it to all of the people under them.

If you are a top level user, and have not received your code, please notify us by email (support@fantaz.com), and make sure to provide us with all of your contact information and how you came to be a top level user. Once the information is confirmed we will provide you with a referral code that will allow you to sign up. This will give you YOUR ZBO number and custom links to pass out to the people below you and to use in your promotional efforts.

Pre-Launch Day!

So today is the big day. Everyone has been working feverishly to be ready for it and there certainly are more than a few bloodshot eyes – but that’s what you get when you work 18-hour-days for months at a time! And, while that sounds like a lot, it’s pretty easy to do when the excitement of FantaZ wakes you up in the morning and keeps you going late!

Our teams will continue working throughout the day pushing to the launch. At midnight eastern time, the powers that be (FantaZ Corporate) will make the determination to go live or to move into a closed beta (details will be provided if this becomes the option).

Together we have all come so far, and FantaZ continues to grow beyond any of our wildest dreams. Ultimately everything we do is for the benefit of the Z and all of its partners. So remember that you cannot publically promote FantaZ until we officially say “go”. Likewise, please check this blog for all announcements as we cannot respond to everyone’s telephone calls and email messages – every time we get one it takes us away from being able to deliver that much sooner.

So keep hanging on to this rocket ride, check back later, and we’ll keep you posted!

A Full Rack
August 8, 2010; 08:15am ET

Yesterday, we loaded up the rack with the new super servers. We also replaced the original switches (the internal network thingees that connect everything together) with ones that were 10x faster. The rack is FULL!!! Eddie, our IT guy, Steve Muccione, scalability/techie guru, Mike Hejja, our gaming guru, and me spent the morning installing, configuring, rewiring, testing, verifying, and more. Here’s a picture of all of us and the rack just before we turned everything on:

Of course, as soon as everything got turned on we immediately blew out the breakers! Now, you have to understand both our rack and the facility itself have multiple redundancies related to power (and pretty much everything else). In any event, we had to perform an emergency add-an-additional-circuit-ectimy… which we did.. and all is fine!

After that, we worked on configuring the tournament stuff and then kinda eased into birthday mode. Carol Micale had the best quote for the picture above: "looks like your kind of birthday party :) ... will they allow cake in the server room???." Thanks to all for their well wishes!

Installing More Servers!

We’re heading over to the server facility this morning to install the 6 Super Servers we bought earlier this week. We got some configuration stuff to finish before we can release the tournament stuff, so we’re getting a pretty early start. Stay tuned here for news on the release when we get back. Racing toward the finish line...

The mad rush is on to tie up all of the loose ends before launch. We are having a BLAST, but also working our B*TTS off. Steve Muccione is flying in tomorrow for four days to work with Eddie, our IT guy, to finalize the server configuration. We bought 6 more INDUSTRIAL servers that we’re setting up this weekend (see pic to right).

Ron is coming over shortly to discuss the support center and go over the stuff we built to help him provide top notch support to our users. Tournaments are being released Saturday morning, followed shortly by ZBO upgrades and the virtual office. So much more, but back at it for now. Will keep you posted.

Game API Fine-tuning

One of the important parts of our gaming API is the ability for the game to communicate with our transaction system. This allows us to monitor the game-play for cheating, to make sure the scores are updated properly, to be able to identify the winner, and in multi-user games to be able to share the game-moves with the other concurrent players.

In the course of testing, we were perplexed to find that every now and then the transactional messages were not posting from the game (Klondike and Word Boss). This made us scratch our heads because while the behind the scenes of the API is complex the actual API integration is pretty straight forward. It turns out that OUR transactional system could handle whatever was thrown at it with no problems, but there was a bug in Flash. The problem was that if Flash tried to process the messages too fast one could “step” on the other. Once we identified the problem we were able to modify our API to rectify the problem. Oh, but what a pain to find it in the first place!

In the process of finding and resolving the issue, we created additional tools to help with future game implementations. We had already written a debugger for our transactional system that allows us to see all of the messages that are processed from the game to our servers, and now we have created an “internal flash” debugger.

Word Boss+ :

Today we launched the first of a bunch of games coming on-line leading up to a flurry of multi-user games (ones that are played simultaneously between more than one player). The new game is “Word Boss” and it is a puzzle/word game that tests your ability to create words out of random letters within a specific period of time. Check it out, and stay tuned!

Security, Security, and More Security:
July 23, 2010; 07:00pm ET

Ok, you can probably tell this is an update about security. Lots of enhancements to the system to eliminate, minimize, and mitigate security issues. All of the critical areas are now fully using top-level encryption and we’ve added a “lock icon” (see below) to designate when you are in a secure encrypted area (kudos to Ron for the idea!). And commerce-related areas have even more than that, though we won’t talk about that here, sorry. You may have also noticed a “time-out” feature for when you have been idle too long on the site. This is to prevent someone else from using your login. As a side note, you should ALWAYS logoff your account if you are using a shared computer.

Now that we’re up to speed with where we want to be with the full security implementation, we hope to get the tournament stuff and multi-player games operational over the next few days. Also, check out the new PROFILE PICTURE manager – available from your “settings” area. Kudos to Dave Micale (yeah, THAT one) for pushing the idea.

Game Fine-Tuning:

We’ve added the random feature discussed earlier to most of the remaining games. You may have to “dump your browser cache” to see the changes. There were also some issues with the Solitaire game that have been fixed, and we resolved an issue related to the multi-user games that we are preparing to release. Also, spent most of the weekend adjusting the servers at the PEAK10 server facility (current home of FantaZ) to optimize performance, security, and scalability. And we’ve brought in a new IT dude to help us with infrastructure management. Welcome to the Z, Eddie!

This is a big week for additions to the Alpha release, so stay tuned!

Alpha 2 Comm Server:

Last night we took the Alpha server down for 3 hours to perform a variety of upgrades, enhancements, and tests.

As it turned out we were able to perform most of the work without the server being down for more than about 20 minutes, but we still took advantage of the time allotted to triple-check our work (and prepare for some more cool stuff coming)!

One of the key components that we configured last night was the FantaZ communications system, which includes a separate communications server that connects to the rest of the system. This allows real-time emails to be generated and to be processed at a very high scale. As a result, whenever a new user joins, when someone friends you, when you forget your password, or when they leave a message on your profile page the system will automatically notify you via email – usually within a few seconds!

Tonight, starting at 8:30pm ET, we'll be onsite at our server facility doing a bunch of stuff to get ready for the big launch -- though it shouldn't affect the Alpha server.

Game Play, Data & Randomness:

To be classified as a skill-based game, all games must have randomness removed. What that means is that when eight people play in a tournament they all must play the exact same game. FantaZ has created an API and an administrative console to accomplish this, allowing us to create specific games by defining the associated data. For example, in the pool game, we can specify how many balls to use and in what exact location on the table to place them.

This all works perfectly in a skill-based tournament, however with free and practice play this is a problem. We do not want to let free-play users get advance knowledge of the games we have defined (via the data method discussed above), however we also do not want to make them play the same game over and over. This latter case is exactly what we were doing – we picked one single instance of the game data and made that the “free play” game. Turns out that sucked! Try playing the same solitaire game over and over without the deck ever changing! Sucks!

So, we changed the free play process. To remove randomness from a game, we go into the game’s source code and insert our API calls to make it respond to defined data instead of the random components. Now, we’ve modified our API to allow us to optionally call the random component for free play and practice games only!

So far we have modified the following games to support randomness in the free modes: Bricks Breaking, Brick Squasher II, Challenge Pool, Klondike Solitaire, Shape Inlay, and Snake. We ‘ll keep you posted on the others.

One side note: in the pool game, we initially were randomizing the number of balls too, however we decided it was best to pick a specific number so that the top scores had a more realistic relationship with each other. Free play pool now randomly distributes 9 balls throughout the table.
